Installing the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard - avoid the driver disc or you might kill Windows Update

After the fun I had with a slow Windows 7 install due to legacy floppy disk support being enabled by default, there was one more issue before the system was working well.

I made the mistake of installing all the supplied drivers on the motherboard disc and it killed Windows 7 WindowsUpdate.

Today I was at friends' house to help one build a new computer for the other. It's a pretty impressive PC, but when it came to installing Windows 7 after we built it, things seemed to be going very slowly!

I have an Nvidia GeForce 250 GTS based graphics card (I believe it's made by Asus). Whilst showing off my comparatively new computer to a very well in the know gamer friend, he suggested I update my Nvidia driver.
